Renew Newcastle consists of many journeys. The experiments, the successes and the failures are rich and varied. Behind them all is a contagious ‘make do, can do’ spirit that has changed the pulse of the city.

Since 2008, Renew Newcastle has been connecting people with vacant spaces, supporting a community of creative entrepreneurs who bring life, interest and activity into under utilised neighbourhoods. Partnering with those who share the vision of giving back to their community.

Filling these empty spaces has created a series of flow on effects. Reducing crime, graffiti, vandalism and giving a significant economic and social value back to the community that has attracted business and residential interest in the city.

We welcome individuals willing to contribute with a pioneering spirit and a collaborative approach. We seek participants with strong ideas who are ready to launch a creative project that will bring life and activity to the area and not directly compete with a nearby business. If you are a property owner, having a temporary venture in an otherwise empty space helps with maintenance and greatly increases property appeal. It reduces the potential of vandalism and our 30-day rolling licensing agreement makes it easy for participants to vacate on short notice for any reason. More information for property owners.

Renew now has the opportunity to re-imagine the Newcastle Railway Station. Creating a place for people to appreciate this iconic location and enjoy food, drink, entertainment, learning and shopping from September 2018.
