30 YEAR PLAN FOR ADELAIDE
URBAN STRATEGY 2008-09

Six Degrees Urban lead the urban design component of the 30 Year Plan for Adelaide, commissioned by the State Government of South Australia, working with KPMG consortium. Developed transit based urban structure plan incorporating transit oriented development sites (TODS) for increased housing and employment density, distributed projected population across TODS and other areas, developed public engagement strategy and imagery.

The City of Adelaide commissioned Six Degrees Urban to develop strategies to assist in activating the City Centre. Approach included a wide-ranging review of previous work done in this area in Adelaide and other Australian cities. The policy implications at the metropolitan wide scale were also examined, through to detailed issues of street edge activation. We recommended a range of actions
at the Macro and Micro scales.

Two reports prepared for City of Sydney to activate the lanes and fine grain spaces of the Sydney CBD, and position it as a place for young people and new businesses including building a case for liquor licensing reform in NSW as part of Sustainable Sydney 2030 Strategy.

Contracted into NSW government Directing the Urban Design for the creation of a network city concept for Sydney’s long-term transport structure through to adoption within the strategy. Global City chapter research and writing comparing Sydney across a range of recognised City Ranking systems.

This guideline is part of Adelaide City|Council’s Urban Design Framework (UDF). The UDF aims to provide a template for new development and alterations to existing buildings, that will, piece by piece and step by step, help create a more coherent, active, diverse and inclusive Adelaide city centre.

CITY OF CITIES METROPOLITAN PLAN FOR SYDNEY

Contracted as Director of Urban Design, NSW Department of Planning Craig Allchin worked with a wider consultant team and the Departmental Staff. The role included directing urban design policy and implementation of the Strategy, building a case for the designation of the River Cities of Parramatta, Penrith and Liverpool, background capacity work and testing of densities in and around centres across the city.
